Water sports and active living in Bibione
Every morning, when the sun illuminates the crystal clear waters of Bibione and the sea breeze caresses the eight-kilometre-long beach, the sea becomes the largest natural stage on the Adriatic. Here, in front of this endless audience of waves and horizons, thousands of people take to the aquatic stage to play their part in ever-changing performances.
On this “liquid” stage, each water sport represents a different genre: windsurfing, in which grace and technique merge in movements that seem to defy the laws of gravity; kayaking, with which to tell silent stories of discovery; parasailing, the great aerial spectacle, with choreography that takes place between sky and sea.
Since 1980, this natural theatre has welcomed performers of all ages and levels, offering fun and adventure to everyone with a wide selection of high-quality equipment.
Sport, yes, but also the realisation of a shared dream: to make the sea accessible to everyone through the art of aquatic movement.
Scenes of the wind: windsurfing and sailing
In Bibione, windsurfing found its ideal stage between the late 1970s and early 1980s. Initially, it was mainly foreign tourists who seized the opportunity, but today the passion has also conquered Italians of all ages.
The Bibione coastline offers breezes that always blow side-on shore – from the sea to the shore – creating natural safety conditions for the actors and actresses of this aquatic theatre.
At the same time, there is no shortage of strong windy days that allow the most experienced performers to put on breathtaking performances.
Five windsurfing schools distributed along the coast, affiliated with the VDWS – the prestigious international association of windsurfing and water sports schools – provide the professional guidance needed to transform beginners into true artists of the water.
Here, you learn that every movement has its own rhythm, every manoeuvre its own poetry, every fall its own lesson.
Sailing completes this first act with courses organised every year for all levels. On the marine stage of Bibione, movement becomes an art form, and dialogue with the wind is transformed into a silent choreography between control and abandonment.
Be part of the show,
The waves and the sun await you.
Scenes of balance: kayaking and SUP
Kayaking, available through Italy’s first tourist centre established in 2010, offers the opportunity to take on more contemplative roles on this liquid stage.
At Piazzale Zenith, the Tornado Surf Centre offers guided tours with different itineraries: each paddle stroke becomes a silent dialogue with the water. Canoeing will immediately seem easy to learn: once you have gained confidence, you will become the protagonist of relaxing or sporting performances, depending on your aptitude.
Stand Up Paddle (SUP) adds a discipline that is pure poetry of balance to Bibione’s theatrical repertoire. On the board, every surfer learns to dialogue with the micro-oscillations of the water, transforming the search for balance into a form of active meditation that takes place on the Adriatic stage.
Two characteristics make these sports special: unlimited accessibility, which also extends to people with disabilities, and the possibility of performing at different times of the year, expanding the calendar of this natural theatre.
Adrenaline-fuelled scenes: flight and speed
For those who love high-intensity, adrenaline-fuelled activities, Bibione offers parasailing: an activity that allows you to fly up to 50 metres above the ground, pulled by a motorboat, enjoying a privileged view of the coastline, sea and lagoon.
No special skills are required: all you need is the desire to let yourself be carried away into a new dimension, suspended between sky and sea, where you can become the protagonist of an unforgettable flight.
Towed water games – Crazy UFO, giant doughnuts, banana boats – complete this act with collective performances that transform the sea into a stage of laughter and camaraderie.
Underwater scenes: diving and swimming
Below the stage, in the depths of the sea surrounding Bibione, diving offers the opportunity to play roles in a completely different theatre, where silence amplifies every gesture and every movement becomes underwater dance.
Diving courses open the doors to this underwater world, requiring specific training in theory and practice, but to get started, all you need is to know how to swim and be comfortable in the water. It is a particular theatrical genre, the one performed in the deep blue.
Swimming, taught by the “Centro Europa” school, which has been operating in Bibione for years, represents a return to the origins of theatre. Here, children, teenagers and adults learn the four main styles – breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle and butterfly – through lessons that combine technique and safety at sea.
Contemplative scenes: fishing
For the more contemplative, Bibione offers the chance to enjoy activities that respect natural rhythms: fishing, both deep-sea fishing and recreational fishing in the lagoon.
Sea Sporting Fishing Portobaseleghe showcases this ancient art form, organising specific competitions as well as a free fishing course for children, which takes place every year in August. It is the theatre of conscious slowness, where every cast is a hope and every wait is a meditation.
The infinite stage
This marine stage has no curtain that falls, no end of season. Every sunny day in Bibione sees hundreds of different shows take place, each with its own story, its own protagonists, its own emotions.
A child climbing onto a SUP board for the first time; an expert windsurfer dancing with the wind; a parasailing flight; a meditative fishing session: every performance contributes to creating that great collective spectacle that is summer in Bibione.
It is a call that appeals to everyone: every summer, thousands of people write their own personal stories of discovery and transformation, creating a collective narrative made up of waves ridden, balance found, fears overcome and horizons broadened.
A story that begins again every year with the first sunny days and never really ends, because it remains etched in the memory as the promise of an eternal return.
