Water sports

Windsurfing

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Bibione became one of the first windsurfing destinations in Italy. Most of the windsurfers in the resort back then were tourists from other countries, but over time Italians have also learned to love it. From the beach, you can see children, mothers, fathers and sometimes even grandparents having a great time as they get to grips with the sport.

There are five windsurfing schools in Bibione. They are spread all along the coast and approved by the prestigious VDWS international association of water sports and windsurfing schools, with qualified instructors and high professional standards.

The expert instructors are determined to spread the word about windsurfing and get more and more people involved in the sport, so they make constant improvements not only to the equipment provided by the schools – such as increasingly light and manageable sails – but also to the technical approaches and teaching methods that they use in lessons for people of all ages.

The Bibione coastline faces South and the breezes are always side-on shore with clockwise turning, which makes the conditions safer for less experienced windsurfers. However, there are also plenty of days when strong winds make it the perfect place for more expert windsurfers to really enjoy themselves.

The wind in Bibione blows parallel with the beach, making it an ideal spot for both novice and expert sailors and windsurfers. There is also a lot on offer for swimmers, scuba divers, kayakers and canoeists. In addition, you can try surfcasting or go trout or carp fishing in the inland waters

Sailing

Sailing courses for people of all standards are organized in the sea every year. Bibione Sailing Club welcomes not only expert sailors but also the numerous youngsters and adults who decide to try out the sport for the first time. The prevailing wind conditions are extremely safe and it is possible to sail on the inland waters when the wind is particularly strong. The qualified FIV (Italian Sailing Federation) instructors at the school organize six different levels of theory and practical lessons for people aged from 6 to 96! See the website for more information: www.circolovelicobibione.com.

Fishing

In Bibione you can use charter services to go deep sea fishing or head to the lagoon with the assistance of the Sea Sporting Fishing Portobaseleghe association. The members know all about a variety of fishing techniques and they are always happy to advise newcomers to the sport where, how and when to go fishing in the lagoon and in the sea that stretches from the Bibione coast to Croatia. The association organizes a range of activities, including competitions and free fishing lessons for children in August. If you fish in the Tagliamento River, you’ll mostly come across trout and carp.

Kayaking

Kayaking may have been invented by the Inuit, but you no longer have to travel to the frozen North to experience its delights thanks to the first kayaking centre for tourists in Italy. Founded in Bibione in summer 2010, it has given a significant boost to the resort’s eco-tourism credentials. The courses comply with the standards for Euro Paddle Pass (EPP) Levels 1 and 2. More advanced lessons can be arranged on request. Anyone aged 12 and over can try kayaking and take part in trips in the lagoon between Bibione and Caorle that are organized by the centre. It’s a wonderful way to learn all about the boats and explore the area at a leisurely pace! There are all sorts of great things about kayaking. For example, you can go out paddling at a number of different times of year and it is accessible to everyone, including disabled people. If you’re a big fan of the sport, don’t miss the international gathering of kayakers in June. For details of route options, see www.vivibibione.com

Canoeing

If you fancy a long trip in the sea or the lagoon, try canoeing! The Tornado Surf Centre in Piazzale Zenith organizes canoeing lessons and guided tours with a number of different route options. You’ll soon see how easy it is to paddle around and once you’ve got the hang of it, you’ll find that canoeing is an excellent way not only to explore the local area but also to stay in shape.

Swimming lessons

Are you someone who loves the beach but doesn’t feel confident in the water? Have you decided that the time has come to take the plunge and learn to swim? Turn to the reliable, professional and experienced team at the “Centro Europa” school in Bibione. For many years now, it has been organizing swimming lessons in the sea for children, teenagers and adults throughout the summer. Group and individual lessons are available for people of all levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. You can learn all of the main strokes, including front crawl, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. Clear information about safety in the sea is provided in every lesson to ensure that learners understand how the currents and tides work, know what to do in deep water and are capable of dealing with situations such as unexpected waves. The teachers are graduates who are part of the Italian Swimming Federation (F.I.N.) and speak five languages. They have assistants to support them and a great deal of experience working with tourists. The lessons take place on three different parts of the beach: Piazzale Zenith, Thermae 1 and Bibione Pineda.

Scuba diving

If you want to take a break from the surface, in Bibione you can explore the unique underwater world! It’s the ideal place to learn how to dive. You’ll need to do special theory and practical lessons to become a certified diver, but all you need to get started is to be a confident swimmer who’s at home in the water! Trips and courses are organized by the SFERASUB Association, which was founded to promote safe diving through training and introduce people to a fresh perspective on the sea.
