The enchanting effects of the lighthouse

The lighthouse is steeped in a poetic sense of nostalgia and the sight of it alone is enough to have an impact on your overall impression of the town.

From the sea, the tall white tower can easily be picked out against the backdrop of the trees as it stands out brightly on the beach. While it no longer serves its former purpose, it is bursting with vibrant historical appeal and continues to fascinate the many visitors who come to Bibione every year.

The lighthouse was built near the mouth of the Tagliamento River in the early 20th century. Once a navigational aid for those at sea, it has now been transformed into a place where holidaymakers from afar can gather.

The house next to the lighthouse is now used as a venue for art exhibitions, music events, high-calibre environmental studies, conventions and conferences. There are cycle and pedestrian paths to both the South and the North of the lighthouse, so cyclists often stop to take a break and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. It’s a great place to walk your dog and some people come here every day simply to admire the breathtaking landscape and savour the natural wonders all around.

We mustn’t forget…
…the natural marvels all around the lighthouse! The area combines a number of different habitats. Thanks to the nearby river, typical Mediterranean plants grow alongside Alpine flora and orchids in a perfectly balanced environment.

The Veneto beach resort will bid farewell to the summer with two days full of fun and unmistakable pleasures of the palate. At the stands in Piazzale Zenith, visitors will have the chance to sample local products and delicious international dishes. During the event, there will also be live music, entertainment for children and a colourful fireworks display to bring the curtain down on it all.
Everyone knows that September is harvest time in this part of the world. Bibione celebrates it with Septemberfest: a festival of grapes and great cuisine that will fill the Piazzale Zenith events area with food & wine stands and shows on 11 and 12 September.
Now taking place for the 37th time, Septemberfest is organized by ProTurist Bibione and it is an initiative by the local estate agents. The extremely popular event brings people of all ages together every year to celebrate the end of the summer and sample the specialities of Bibione’s coast and inland areas.
Wine will take centre stage during the proceedings. During the two days of Septemberfest, visitors will be able to experience the delights of Lison-Pramaggiore Chardonnay and Merlot by wineries from San Michele al Tagliamento, as well as other prized Italian labels. In addition, customers of the estate agents will be given wine bags that entitle them to free tastings.
The healthy, tasty culinary specialities served at the Septemberfest stands come from the local area: they range from exquisite seafood such as sardines, calamari and mussels to Montasio cheese and polenta. This year, there will also be a chance to try a few international dishes, including picanha and Argentinian asado. It will all be complemented by outstanding live music.
While the grown-ups are revelling in all of these treats for their taste buds, children can have a whale of a time with the scenic train and entertainment provided by acrobats, fire-breathers, clowns and jugglers. At 11.00 pm, everyone will gather together on the beach for a fabulous musical fireworks display. The flashes, colours and sounds will light up the sky in glorious symphony. It will be a wonderful way to bid farewell to the magical summer that is coming to an end and look forward to next year, back in Bibione.
