The flora of Bibione
Bibione and its surroundings form a region of high biodiversity: in the Vallesina, Val Grande and in the area around the mouth of the river Tagliamento many species of plants with different ecological characteristics cohabit.
The best time of the year, to admire the pinewood of Bibione in all its mighty beauty is both spring and autumn.
Three are the main and common features of the green areas, by turning them into unique environmental resources: the proximity to the Alpine and Mediterranean flora, the presence of orchids and the surviving of rare or only native species.
This is the reason why in the surroundings of Bibione you will find the Austrian Pine that has been growing in this area since the prehistory. It is a big tree, easy to spot due to its dark green and thick leaved crown mixed with the brown of the cones.
Or you could see the Grass of Parnassus, which can rarely be found in the plains since it is a typical grass species of the marshes.
There are many plants that you could recognize along a walk trough the pinewood: oaks, primroses, steamless gentians, the marsh fern, the hop hornbeam, the yellow daylily, the Salomon’s seal, the sharp-leaved asparagus, the butcher's broom and the marsh gladiolus.
Many are also the orchid’s species: the green-winged orchid, the three-toothed orchid, the twayblade, the red helloborine, the sword-leaved helloborine and the violet limodore.
