The environmental certification EMAS
Bibione is eco-friendly. Caring for the environment is an ongoing and structured commitment, which improves the lives of residents and visitors alike, and has been rewarded by a total of 21 years of Blue Flags and EMAS Registration
Bibione is the first tourist hub in Europe , to have obtained EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) (Environmental Registration, a major award recognised at European level, an award which, since 2002, has continued to reward continuing and collective commitment focused on protecting the natural environment
DBibione’s great wealth is in fact its unique, fragile ecosystem: the shoreline, fish farms, pine forests and the Tagliamento estuary as well as several zones which have remained more or less unspoilt constitute a rare and valuable environmental resource which must be consistently monitored, protected and improved.
Improvement and protection are themes which involve the entire community, and for this reason, the Municipality Administration, the Trade Associations and sector workers in the territory have understood how to overcome self interest and network instead. They recognised that the EMAS regulations represented the most appropriate instrument to manage this unique ecological niche. The regulations, which apply to the entire Bibione territory, establish rules and norms which enable the principles of sustainable development to be coupled with those of environmental protection.
Applying for Environmental Registration means voluntarily setting out the finishing lines that a location must reach in the short and long term.
It means analysing, before all else, a territory’s strengths and weaknesses from a legislative, technical and organisational standpoint.
It means recognising new operational models with respect to environmental conservation and improvement, to be implemented through strict management protocols validated by Organisations for accredited certification.
To this end, the EMAS Help Desk has been set up in Bibione, in an office in the headquarters of the Bibione municipality delegation, located in Via Maja.
The help desk is there to give residents, tourists, associations and tourism sector workers all the information required on how to contribute to maintaining the quality standards reached by working together and also how to further improve their expertise within an environmental context.
Professionally trained staff will be on hand to give you full information on the EMAS certification and on the protocols in force.
EMAS registration and Blue Flags signal safety to tourists, since operations focused on respecting the environment, such as correct management of the water treatment plants to improve the bathing water quality, the quality of the beach facilities, the maintenance and cleaning plans for the green areas as well as the creation of safe cycle trails enabling the natural beauty of the resort to be discovered, just to give a few examples, are also certifying a better tourist experience.
In practical terms, the benefits to tourists spending their holidays on a beach which has been environmentally certified are:
- better quality swimming water due to the carefully monitored management of the water treatment plant.
- a better standard of beach facilities
- a detailed town planning policy, which includes operations of street furniture aimed at protecting the surrounding environment
- creation of safe cycle trails enabling the natural beauty of the resort to be discovered
- creation of environmental programs aimed at raising public awareness
